The Palace
The Palace is an avatar-based chat program. You have to download and install The Palace client before using it. It can be downloaded from http://www.thepalace.com/.
The interface and the chat rooms available within The Palace resemble a video game. The first time to you enter a Palace room, it will take awhile to download the images for that room. Once inside, you select an avatar to represent yourself in this graphical environment.
Once you have The Palace client installed, you can explore the chat rooms at Cybertown at Cybertown.wman.com. The Port address is 9998. Select one of the pull down Palace room options, or type in an address.
Once you've highlighted an address and clicked OK, you'll enter the front door of the chat room you selected.
The above image is the front door to Cybertown's homeworld chat room. If you click on the door to enter it, you'll get a chat environment like the one in the image below.
In this example, "you" are Guest 170, and your avatar is the default yellow smiley head. You just typed "Anybody out there?" in the Le Cafe dialogue box, and when you hit the Enter key, that message appeared as a dialogue balloon next to your avatar. If there are other people online chatting when you log on, you will see them move around and anything they "say" will appear as dialogue balloons next to their avatars.
