Search Engines - Specific Search Engine Tips

 

 altavista.gif (977 bytes) Use its Power Search window to construct complex Boolean queries. Click the Refine button to view a list of words commonly found in the search results. You can refine the search by including or excluding any of those words from a subsequent search.
 excite.gif (5909 bytes) The "More Like This" feature finds additional pages similar to a found page that meets your requirements. Also, use its Power Search page for fine-tuning searches.
 hotbot.gif (1085 bytes) Find only up-to-date pages by limiting the search to those pages that have changed in the last three or six months.
 infoseek.gif (994 bytes) After you complete one search, search within those results. Do that by constructing a new query and clicking on the "Search These Results" button.
 lycos.gif (4396 bytes) The Lycos Pro page finely tunes how it ranks found items for relevancy.
 northern.gif (7010 bytes) Search the Special Collections as well as the entire Web. This turns up documents that aren't otherwise available on the Web.
 yahoo.gif (5394 bytes) One of the net's biggest library of links.
