Hypermedia - Shockwave and Flash

Animation and interactivity are elements that make a web site come alive. A lot of developers add these features to their sites with animated GIF files, or java applets, which don't require a separate plug in. Macromedia gives away a popular plug-in called Shockwave, which lets you view miniature, interactive movies that run within your browser.

With Shockwave, you can see more things on the web: games, animated interfaces, interactive ads and demos, streaming audio for music and speech, and instructional and educational presentations.

In order to view "shocked" pages, you'll need to download and install the Shockwave plug in from Macromedia: http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/.

Sites to view once you have Shockwave and Flash on your computer:

* Macromedia Gallery
* The Gap
* Shockwave Games
* Star Trek Insurrection
* West Coast Commuter Rail
* The Virtual Tattoo Parlor
* Broadband.com
* Willing-to-try
* Ben & Jerry's Virtual Snowman
